After School Programs

Dear Walgrove Families,

Here is the lowdown on the after-school programs:
Penmar Park is great with kids, especially the littlest of the kiddos. Penmar Park staff picks up students at Walgrove. You, then, pick up your kiddos at Penmar Park (not Walgrove) no later than 6pm. This is a wonderful low-cost option.
The Venice Boys and Girls Club is also popular. The Venice Boys and Girls Club picks students up at Walgrove, as well. You then pick up your kiddos at the Venice Boys and Girls Club no later than 6pm. This is another great low-cost option.
Beyond the Bell - Youth Services is a free program that used to be at Walgrove (before COVID), and, according to the supervisor, will be at Walgrove again this year starting Monday. This is a less structured program than STAR or Team Prime Time. But it is free, flexibile, and fun. Instead of rotations into and out of certain activities, it is a bit more loose and free. One of our former contract workers is going to be the supervisor for this program here at Walgrove soon. In the meantime, the District is sending a lovely woman whom I am meeting on Friday. You can pick up your kiddos from this program at the After-School Gate (by the auditorium) no later than 6pm.
Beyond the Bell - Team Prime Time is a new program here at Walgrove, replacing STAR. It is a free program that is more structured than Youth Services. It involves rotations into and out of certain activities, such as homework, art, sports...It is also at Short Avenue and Westminster. I have heard good things, and the owner Peter, supervisor Kent, and Walgrove director Thomas all seem great. I have very high hopes! You can pick up your kiddos from this program at the After-School Gate (by the auditorium) no later than 6pm.
To apply for either/both Youth Services and/or Team Prime Time, complete the application below. At the top of the form, select either/both Youth Services or Team Prime Time, depending on your desires. (You may have to write in "Team Prime Time" under where it says "grant funded program.")
Email your completed Beyond the Bell applications to me, Dr. K, at andrea.kittelson1@lausd.net AFTER Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 9am.
Applications accepted starting 08/08/2024 at  9am and ongoing until we reach capacity for Team Prime Time.
My understanding is that there IS now a capacity for Team Prime Time at approximately 80 students, and that the other 30-40 kiddos that apply will go to Youth Services. Both programs will work together and share aspects of the space. It is just that one program is more structured than the other. Team Prime Time is grant-funded and hence has more rules about what students can engage in, where, and for how long.
Both programs are supervised by LAUSD's Beyond the Bell division.
I will keep a spreadsheet of the application timestamps in case there is the need to put folks into Team Prime Time (or Youth Services) on a first-come, first-serve basis.
PICK-UP IS AT THE PRIME TIME GATE BETWEEN THE CAFETERIA AND AUDITORIUM
