2021-2022 Budget Survey

Dear Parents,

As we prepare next year's budget, we need to hear from you about what aspects of our supplementally funded programs you most rely upon.

While we WILL be able to maintain our STEAM Studio and theater programs, in part because of grant money, specially earmarked, and while we HOPE to maintain ALL our teachers and programs, IF we are left with Sophie's Choice and are forced to cut something for next year (just for next year), we need to hear from you, which thing(s) those should/might be.

Parents, please take this very short parent survey (there is a separate identical survey for staff):

Please also know that FOW and the school have been working tirelessly on the following:
  • Lobbying the District with regard to staffing and filing staffing appeals. Last year we were successful. This year, they denied our Gen Ed appeal, and we are awaiting word on our SpEd appeal
  • Lobbying the Board with regard to staffing and making heartfelt and evidence-based pleas
  • Volunteering every Saturday to maintain the garden program so that the garden doesn't become fallow and sad, and so that those who do want to/are able to partake in the healing work can partake in the healing work
  • Providing pushback and data on any and all potential threats to our funding
  • Taking advantage of public speaking opportunities to put Walgrove in a positive light
  • Sharing our innovations to put Walgrove in a positive light
  • Hosting group and private tours to increase enrollment (if we increase enrollment by Sept 17, returning to last year's levels, we won't need to pay for otherwise displaced teachers. Then, no Sophie's Choice!)
  • Fundraising despite its unsavoriness during this difficult time
  • Increasing our own monthly donations and Facebook donations, etc...
  • Providing a safety net, ourselves, for our own families so they have access to school and don't fall through. We don't want for Walgrove's cracks to be the kind that people fall through
  • Others
If you have any questions, suggestions or big ideas, please come to Coffee with the Principal Friday at 3 in my Zoom room, or email, call or text me.

Thank you for your partnership!

T-Mobile Hot Spot Dilemma Solved!

If you borrowed a T-Mobile hot spot from LAUSD and can't seem to get it to work, take these steps:

1. Plug in the charger. You will notice the battery symbol eventually change from red to green.

2. Once it is green and hence charged, unplug it, then turn it on. Press the power button for a couple seconds until all (or nearly all) the lights turn green.

3. If there is no LAUSD label on the back (the last 8 digits of the device number = the security key), open the back of your hot spot (yes, the back cover comes off) to find the security key AKA password

4. In your laptop, iPad or smart phone's Wi Fi/network settings, find the network with Coolpad Surf in it. That's your T-Mobile hot spot network. Click to connect it. Enter the security key/password that you found either on the back or inside the hot spot.

VOILA! YOU ARE CONNECTED!

Then, if you want to keep your hot spot charged, feel free to plug it in again (or not).
