Walgrove Weekly Message 12/04/2022

Dear Walgrove Families and Staff,

Time has flown like a chevron of flying birds! It is already almost time for our Winter Break.

But before we move forward, let us reflect on at least the last week.

This past Friday, we hosted a memorial service for our beloved 30-year volunteer Michael Stenger. Approximately 100 people joined us, first in the Wildlands, then in the auditorium, to honor his remarkable life and legacy of heroism, gentleness, and kindness.

This weekend -- last night and today -- the Angel City Youth Chorale, comprised of 50 students in grades first and upward, across Los Angeles -- half of which are from Walgrove! -- performed at UCLA's Royce Hall as part of the Angel City Chorale's yearly winter celebration and singalong. (See the photos below!)

And, we have more to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Here is some of what is coming up this week at Walgrove:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

IMPORTANT: Parents of 4th and 5th graders, please make sure your kiddos take the STUDENT version of the School Experience Survey (via their LAUSD email. It is not a web link. Instead, it was sent to their emails). We tried to administer the survey this week during school, as we were directed to by the higher-ups, but we were only mildly successful as too many students had parent-controls on their LAUSD devices and LAUSD emails. Please know that we do need to access student email and LAUSD devices and other LAUSD applications during instruction. So, please release such controls as they pertain to LAUSD emails and devices, AND please make sure your child does/did complete their version of the School Experience Survey. THESE SURVEYS ARE DUE THIS WEEK.

Please think twice about sending toys to school with your kiddos, as they tend to cause opportunities for distraction in class and conflict at recess and lunch. We do have sufficient toys and games in class and during recess (and we don't allow toys while eating lunch). I would hate for your child to lose their most prized toy.

The Lost and Found is managed beautifully by STAR (and STAR kids), and it is out in front of the school every weekday from 2:30-6pm. So, if you are missing a water bottle, sweatshirt, jacket, hat or other item, please check out the STAR Gate in front of the school each and every day until 6. Anything left after December 16 will be washed and donated over the Winter Break to the Ladera Heights Goodwill.

After school tutoring through Windward School students is available this winter. To register, click here
